Maris Piper seed potatoes ‘chitting’ on my windowsill. It is raining quite heavily at the moment so I’m glad all the gardening is to be done indoors anyway. I’ve also planted some onion and gardener’s delight tomato seeds this year, fingers crossed we can crow bar them all into the garden. They look happy enough in their little enclosure next to the booze for now anyway.

So….’chitting’….
we’re about to do that. What have you done – just literally leave them on a shelf>? or in a box/on earth etc etc???
more detail/learnings/research shared would be appreciated.
Thanks
Nigel
According to the instructions, you just leave them on a windowsill (or at least somewhere with a bit of daylight, although apparently direct sunlight is best avoided).
You’re supposed to arrange them so that the ‘eyes’ face upwards. I’ve just put them in a dish so that they support each other. Then you wait for the little sprouts to sprout! The process takes about 6 weeks. By planting time in March, the sprouts should be about 5cm long. Then when they are planted they have a flying start and should produce loads of lovely taters. Mmmm.
I am waiting, with baited breath…
